Everybody who has a talking in-car navigation unit seems to give it a name

My parents call theirs "Susie". We call ours "Martina" (short for Martina Navratigation). A black co-worker and his friends call his "White Lady" (as in "Hey, let's ask White Lady how to get there."). I wonder why people inherently do that? cc/ +Amber Case
